On March 6, 2025, the Government of Canada announced the opening of new millimeter wave frequency bands for improved 5G connectivity and innovative applications.
According to the announcement, the government will make the 27.5G-28.35GHz band available through the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development's "Non-Competitive Local Licensing Framework "*, as well as the 26GHz and 38GHz bands through the upcoming spectrum auction The company will also allocate frequencies in the 26 GHz and 38 GHz bands through a planned spectrum auction.
