On March 31, 2025, South Korea's Samsung and local telecommunications giant KT signed a memorandum of understanding on joint research on next-generation communications technology aimed at improving 6G signal quality. The two companies will develop multi-antenna technology to expand coverage in the 7 GHz band, which is expected to be utilized in 6G, as well as explore AI integration into wireless communications to improve network stability and performance.

The two companies are already collaborating on a super-dense antenna technology called eXtreme Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (X-MIMO). This technology aims to expand 6G coverage and improve data transmission speeds. In particular, the focus is on utilizing the 7 GHz band (7.125-8.4 GHz), which the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) identified as a candidate frequency for 6G at the World Radio Communication Conference (WRC-23).

We are focusing on developing innovative 6G technologies that will enhance both the operational efficiency and overall user experience of the 7GHz band," said Angelo Jeongho Park, Director of Samsung Research's Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute, adding, "Our collaboration with KT will be an important foundation for promoting next-generation communications through rational and cost-effective investment. Our collaboration with KT will be an important foundation for promoting next-generation telecommunications through rational and cost-effective investments," he commented.
