Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the end of its own AWS Private 5G offering on May 20, 2025. As of the same date, support was discontinued and access to the service is already no longer available.
AWS officially launched the service in August 2022. Initially, the service only supported 4G LTE and was offered to customers in certain areas of the U.S., but the company also revealed plans for future international expansion and 5G support.
AWS commented on the termination of the service, "The goal of AWS Private 5G was to make it easier for companies to deploy private mobile networks, but several challenges, including radio frequency band constraints and reliance on third-party hardware, made it difficult to deploy as originally envisioned. However, several challenges, such as limited wireless spectrum and reliance on third-party hardware, made it difficult to deploy as originally envisioned.
AWS continues to offer "Integrated Private Wireless on AWS," a private wireless solution in cooperation with telecommunications service providers (CSPs). The solution integrates CSPs' private LTE/5G networks with AWS' services such as Regions, Local Zones, Outposts, and Snowball. CSP is developing services for corporate customers.
