The AI-RAN Alliance, which promotes radio access networks (RANs) using AI technology, and LF Networking (LFN), an affiliate of the Linux Foundation, signed on August 4, 2025, a cooperation on accelerating innovation in AI-native networks and looking ahead to the transition to 6G LFN's open development model will be utilized to optimize AI-RAN, aiming to improve network performance and flexibility through open innovation.

The AI-RAN Alliance, an alliance of companies including AWS, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Nokia, T-Mobile, and Softbank, aims to optimize performance and establish a new network architecture by placing AI at the core of wireless networks. LFN, on the other hand, is an open source development platform under the Linux Foundation, with strengths in cloud-native development models and open ecosystems.

Arpit Joshipura, GM of Networks, Edge and IoT at the Linux Foundation, commented, "With this collaboration, we are bringing open source principles and cloud-native innovation to the AI-native RAN space to ensure transparency, interoperability and industry-wide impact on the industry as we evolve to 6G," he commented.

While the specifics of the partnership are pending further announcement, the two parties will work together to achieve common goals for the advancement of AI-RAN.
