UAE telecom giant du announced on August 13, 2025, the launch of the first 5G-Advanced (5G-A) on a commercial network in the Middle East, in collaboration with Huawei.
This network provides the ultra-high-speed communications needed for 8K video distribution and real-time conferencing. It also provides wide coverage that reaches remote areas and ultra-low latency to support critical applications such as self-driving cars and smart city infrastructure. It will also support large-scale corporate IoT deployments.
The two companies have been collaborating for some time, and in September 2024, they began commercial deployment of an indoor 5G-A network in Dubai, utilizing Huawei's LampSite X digital indoor solution and three-carrier aggregation (3CC) technology* to demonstrate up to 5.1 Gbps downlink speed.
Saleem AlBlooshi, CTO of du, emphasized that "5G-A is a milestone for the UAE's telecommunications sector," commenting that "this milestone reflects our commitment to continue delivering world-class connectivity and our vision of the UAE becoming a global technology leader. The UAE is a global technology leader.
A technology that improves communication speed and capacity by simultaneously bundling multiple frequency bands; one of the standards used in 5G and LTE.
