On September 22, 2025, U.S. telecommunications giant Verizon announced the establishment of the Verizon 6G Innovation Forum, an industry collaboration organization to lead research and development of the next-generation 6G communications technology. The Forum will work with telecommunications equipment vendors and device/chipset companies to lay the groundwork for 6G and contribute to the international standardization of the technology.

Launch partners include Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia, Meta, and Qualcomm. The Forum will work on defining the use cases and device and network technologies envisioned for 6G, as well as on specific initiatives such as developing the underlying technologies and ensuring global consistency.

Verizon also announced plans to establish new "6G Labs" in Los Angeles. Here, participating companies will share an experimental environment and accelerate technology verification through prototyping and field trials. It is expected to serve as a base for demonstration and evaluation toward standardization.
