Chinese smart device giant OPPO announced on December 10, 2025, that it has signed a global agreement with Audi of Germany to license OPPO's Standard-Essential Patents (SEPs) on cellular communications for automotive applications. With this agreement, OPPO's communication technology, including 5G technology, is expected to be used in the connected cars that Audi sells around the world.

The agreement is aimed at providing OPPO's cellular SEP portfolio to Audi to enhance the user experience through advanced in-car communications. This is the third such agreement with a major automaker, having also signed SEP licensing agreements with Volkswagen of Germany and a major Chinese automaker (name withheld) this year.

According to patent analysis firm LexisNexis IPlytics, OPPO is ranked 8th in the world for 5G patent influence as of January 2025. The company has also filed more than 117,000 patent applications and holds more than 65,000 patents as of September 2025. The company continues to invest in core technologies such as 5G/6G, AI, and charging technology, and will continue to drive innovation across the connected device and mobility ecosystem.

Vincent Lin, Head of Intellectual Property Licensing at OPPO, commented, "This partnership embodies the shared vision of the wireless technology leader and the automotive industry to promote seamless connectivity and cross-industry cooperation.
