Finland's Nokia announced on April 24, 2025, the expansion of its strategic alliance with U.S. telecommunications giant T-Mobile in the area of 5G radio access networks (RAN). The new multi-year agreement will deploy Nokia's next-generation baseband and wireless technologies to enhance the coverage and capacity of T-Mobile's 5G network, which covers the entire United States.
The agreement includes the provision of hardware, software, maintenance and support services by Nokia. Specifically, the agreement includes the provision of the AirScale RAN portfolio, including the latest generation of Habrok Massive MIMO equipment and Levante Ultra-Performance baseband solutions; the introduction of MantaRay SON, an AI-based network optimization technology, and MantaRay AutoPilot, an operational automation solution.
In addition to this, Nokia will drive T-Mobile's network evolution using a next-generation RAN architecture that improves agility, scalability, and operational efficiency. In addition, Nokia will continue its technology partnership with T-Mobile's 2024 AI-RAN Innovation Center to support AI-RAN related initiatives.
